Green party groups throughout the state of Ohio to
see how many pieces of campaign literature each local
can distribute on the following designated canvassing
days for our two candidates:

Kick off for Alan Amstutz Sat. Sept. 14 2002 Columbus
contact info: 614-791-9933

Kick off for Frank Doden Sat. Sept. 21 2002 Springfield
contact info: dodenfordemocracy@hotmail.com

Whichever local green group's representatives are
determined by the candidates to have distributed
the most literature over those two Saturdays, that
local green group will receive an award and special
recognition from the GPO CC.

Results will be announced Monday, September 23.

 5) FUNDS STILL NEEDED FOR SUPREME COURT CASE
***************************************************
Late in the summer of 2000, the Nader/LaDuke campaign,
along with the Green Party, filed suit in the U.S.
District Court in Columbus, Ohio in order to challenge
Ohio’s ballot cue statute (Nader, et al v. Blackwell).
Although Nader won this suit on October 13, 2000,
Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell received a stay
from a panel of the 6th Circuit Court before the election,
and on January 30, 2001, the same panel found Nader’s
case to be without merit. A subsequent effort to get
the entire 6th Circuit Court to rehear the case was
denied on March 28, 2002. However, in late June, Terry
Lodge, attorney for the Green Party of Ohio, petitioned
the U.S. Supreme Court to review the case.

The Green Party of Ohio needs to raise $3,000 for this
case. Please send your $35, $50, $100 or more contribution
today to the Green Party of Ohio Federal PAC, Paul
Dumouchelle, Treasurer, 8832 Nairn Ct., Dublin OH 43017.
Contributions to the Green Party of Ohio Federal PAC
are not deductible for federal tax purposes.

 7) CAMPAIGN SCHOOL VIDEO AVAILABLE
***************************************************
The Green Party of the United States Coordinated
Campaign Committee is planning a nationwide Elections
2002 Mobilization to kick off on October 5th. The
campaign will focus on encouraging Green supporters
who have not yet done so to find and volunteer for
Green candidates in their area. More details will be
available in a week.

In the meantime, the video from the Campaign School
held at the Midterm Convention last July in Philadel-
phia will be available shortly to any Greens who would
like it. Those who request a copy will be asked to con-
tribute the cost of the video tape and postage (probably
around $6). State and local parties may order one video
and then copy it for campaigns. If you would like to
order a copy, please email Juscha Robinson at
juscha@greens.org.

 8) ECOLOGICAL DECLINE FAR WORSE: GRIM WARNING
***************************************************
The real level of world inequality and environmental
degradation may be far worse than official estimates,
according to a leaked document prepared for the
world's richest countries and seen by the UK's Guardian.

It includes new estimates that the world lost almost
10% of its forests in the past 10 years; that carbon
dioxide emissions leading to global warming are expected
to rise by 33% in rich countries and 100% in the rest
of the world in the next 18 years; and that more than
30% more fresh water will be needed by 2020.

The background paper for last month's Organisation for
Economic Co-operation and Development pre-Johannesburg
meeting on sustainable development draws on many pre-
viously unseen UN, World Bank, World Trade Organisation,
and academic papers.

 9) GREENS FOR GREENS KICKOFF IN SPRINGFIELD 9/21

outreach in Springfield. Green Party members from

Things will kick off at Perkins on S. Limestone at
10 AM. Perkins is just north of I-70 on Hwy. 72 head-
ing into Springfield.) Then folks will head out to

lots of companionship, and more.

If you plan to attend, email Frank Doden at
dodenfordemocracy@hotmail.com.

11) MT. OLIVE BOYCOTT HAS SECOND VICTORY
***************************************************
On Aug. 24 after a lively pickle picket by more than
20 members of Farm Labor Organizing Committee (FLOC),
the New Hope Commons Wal-Mart in Durham, NC took Mt.
Olive pickles off its shelves. This makes it the second
Wal-Mart in the month of August to do this after a
Bowling Green Wal-Mart stopped carrying Mt. Olive Aug. 8,
2002. FLOC is asking supporters nationwide to call
1-800-WALMART to thank Walmart for the Durham store's
decision and encourage them to stop carrying Mt. Olive
Pickles nationwide until Mt. Olive addresses deplorable
living and working conditions in the eastern North
Carolina fields that supply its cucumbers by giving
farmworkers a voice in contract negotiations. It's time
for Walmart to learn that what's cheap is not what's
right! It's time for Walmart to dump sweatshop pickles!

FLOC has been boycotting Mt. Olive Pickles since 1999
after two years of dialogue failed to convince the
company of its responsibility for the working condi-
tions of North Carolina farm workers that harvest
the company's pickles. FLOC insists that the company
sign a three-way contract with farmers and farm-
workers that would insure a fairer distribution of
profits, clear standards for farmworker conditions,
and a process for resolving grievances. So far,
Mt. Olive has refused to negotiate.

12) BALLOT INITIATIVES FOR NOVEMBER
***************************************************
The Ohio Drug Treatment Initiative would be an
amendment to the Ohio Constitution to provide an
opportunity for treatment instead of incarceration
for individuals charged with or convicted of illegal
possession or use of a controlled substance, and,
in some cases, additional non-violent offenses. Find
out more at http://www.ohiodrugreform.org.

The Darby Creek Initiative would protect and preserve
the Big Darby Watershed by preventing the City of
Columbus from extending sewer and water services
further into the watershed for a period two years.
Find out more at http://www.peerohio.org.

13) NATIONAL MARCH ON WASHINGTON OCTOBER 26
***************************************************
On Sat., Oct. 26 -- the first anniversary of the
signing of the so-called USA Patriot Act -- anti-war,
civil rights, labor, student and other forces are
joining together to launch a massive international
mobilization in opposition to a new war against the
people of Iraq. Mass marches and rallies will be held
in Washington DC and San Francisco in the U.S., and
in many other countries.

14) ANOTHER RENEWABLE ENERGY VICTORY IN CALIFORNIA
***************************************************
California Senate Bill 1078, the Renewables Portfolio
Standard (RPS), passed through the state legislature
this week and is expected to be signed into law by
Governor Davis. The RPS will force California’s pri-
vate utilities to sell more renewable energy to Cali-
fornians. The bill mandates that utilities increase
the amount of renewable energy they sell by 1% per
year up to and beyond 20%. The goal is to have all
private utilities selling 20% renewable energy by 2017.
This is a great step forward for the renewable energy
industry in California, it will create clean jobs
while providing reliable energy for years to come.

15) CLAMOR MAGAZINE

30 years of age" across the country and two of them
are right here in Ohio - Jen Angel and Jason Kucsma
of Bowling Green, Ohio.

They are founders and editors of "Clamor" - described
in Utne as "a magazine that celebrates do-it-yourself
journalism for a growing audience of politically and
socially aware youth."
