2) GPO #1 GREEN WEB SITE AMONG ALEXA USERS
***************************************************
The Green Party of Ohio (GPO) Web site now has the
highest traffic ranking
of any Green Party Web site
in the United States on the Alexa Internet service.
The GPO Web site ranks 155,117 up from its last rating
of 423,522. The GPO
site now ranks higher than the
greens.org domain which includes Web sites
from nine
Green Party state sites including California. Greens.org
ranks
232,077 (up from 301,244 last month) and the Green
Party of the United States
ranks 285,013 (up from 622,655
last month). (The Ohio Democratic Party has
dropped from
1,178,051 to 1,675,282 and the Ohio Republican Party now
ranks 1,116,977, up from 3,074,766 last month.)
Alexa
Internet takes a unique approach to Web navigation
by injecting human intelligence
into it. "At any given
moment, there are millions of people on the Internet
experiencing firsthand what works, what doesn't work,
what's relevant, what's
cool and what isn't. Alexa taps
into this collective reserve of information,
knowledge
and experience and transforms it into a free navigation
service
that benefits everyone. Said another way, Alexa
provides the technology that
allows everyone to share
their knowledge with everyone else, to everyone's
benefit."
Alexa
has implemented significant changes in its Web
traffic statistics this past
month. It now rolls up all
traffic by domain and no longer counts multiple
page
views by the same user; it now counts only the total
number of unique
users.

3) GREEN PARTY NEWS FROM PENNSYLVANIA
***************************************************
The Green Party of Pennsylvania candidates received
enough votes in the 2000
election in Pennsylvania to
get the Green Party listed as a specific option
on
the state's current voter registration forms. The
other options are
Republican, Democratic, no affilia-
tion and other. The Greens say having
the Green Party
on the forms makes voters more apt to register with
the
party. Whether the party again gets a specific
listing in 2003 depends on
how well the Greens do in
Pennsylvania on Nov. 6. The Green candidates statewide
must receive 21,028 votes to achieve official "minor
party status"
for 2003. That equals more than 2 percent
of the highest vote-getter's statewide
total in the
2001 general election.

Although
the Green Party is the only qualified minor
party in the state, members have
to collect approxi-
mately 1,000 signatures from registered voters to earn
placement on November's ballot. Eric Prindle, chairman
of the Snyder County
Green Party and chairman of the
party's state committee, is coordinating the
statewide
initiative, which kicked off May 21 and will continue
until
the Aug. 1 deadline for signatures.

Lancaster
County was the seventh stop on Green gube-
natorial candidate Morrill's nine-county
tour to meet
voters and thank poll workers for their hard work and support.

The
Democratic battle for governor may have stolen the
fire in Tuesday's primary,
but one brave young soul took
advantage of a better-than-average turnout to
champion
the state's Green Party hopefuls. Jesse Crooks, 18, stood
outside
the busy polling site at Central Bucks East High
School in Buckingham and
politely asked voters to sign a
petition seeking to put two Greens running
governor and
lieutenant governor on the ballot in November.

4) DEROSA DENIED BALLOT STATUS BY SEC. OF STATE
***************************************************
Connecticut 1st District Green Party candidate Mike
DeRosa found out earlier
this month that the Secretary
of State denied his ballot status because of
the state's
redistricting. Under Connecticut law, candidates re-
ceiving
a minimum of 1% of the vote in the previous
election gain automatic ballot
status. In the last
election, DeRosa received 11% of the district vote
for State Senator while campaigning against Democratic
incumbent John Fonfara.

5) GREEN PARTY
AIMS HIGH IN WISCONSIN
***************************************************
In Wisconsin, the Green Party has a dozen chapters
around the state, only
four of which existed before
the 2000 election. Amy Heart of Stevens Point,
a co-
spokesperson for the Wisconsin Green Party, said that
is proof that
the party has successfully expanded
beyond the few liberal college towns,
such as Madison,
where they were visible in the 1990s. Green Party
candidates
are planning to run against U.S. Reps.
Gerald Kleczka, D-Milwaukee, and Mark
Green, R-Green
Bay, and the party is searching for a candidate to run
against U.S. Rep. Ron Kind, D-La Crosse.
"The
Greens are becoming increasingly sophisticated
politically," said Madison
resident Ben Manski, a co-
chairman of the Green Party of the United States.
Be-
cause Green Party members are often "regular people"
with
little political experience, he said, they are
still learning how to run campaigns.

to the expulsion and
arrest of its declared guberna-
torial candidate from the Gubernatorial Candidate
Forum on the Environment at Brighton High School.

9) GREEN PARTY NEWS FROM MAINE
***************************************************
In Maine, the Green Party has fielded candidates
periodically for top-of-the-ticket
positions, but
few for the state Senate and House of Representatives.
This year, there are signs that is changing.
***Read the Kennebec Journal
article (5/13/02):

It
used to be the Maine Green Party. Now it is the
Green Independent Party. But
it is still the same
thing, say Green activists.

lot this November as a Green Party candidate.

11) GREEN PARTY OF NY HOLDS CONVENTION TODAY
***************************************************
The Green Party of New York holds its nominating
convention today in Ithaca.
About 150 people, including
50 to 75 state committee members, are expected
to attend.
The party will choose its candidates for governor,
lieutenant
governor, attorney general and comptroller.
Anyone receiving at least 25 percent
of the votes cast
Saturday has the right to appear on the ballot, so Satur-
day's convention could set up a Green primary battle in
September.

12) GREEN PARTY DEVELOPING SWING POWER IN TEXAS
***************************************************
Texas Democrats probably realize it by now, but the
Green Party of Texas may
be a headache for them this
fall. Greens, pro-environment and anti-big-business,
had a gathering in Austin on May 18 to introduce some
of their probable statewide,
regional and local candi-
dates for office on Nov. 5.
