2) BEY GETS 10% IN TOLEDO CITY COUNCIL RACE

an independent running
with the support and endorse-
ment of the Green Party in Toledo, received
10% of
the vote in the race for Toledo City Council.
***************************************************
3) GREENS IN UK LAUNCH ONLINE AD CAMPAIGN
***************************************************
Digital Media Communications (DMC) is helping the
Green Party in the United
Kingdom with a 'first' -
launching an online viral film advertising campaign
consisting of seven challenging film clips that drive
home the fundamental
issues being glossed over by
larger, richer political parties.
Seeded
and tracked by DMC, the innovative new Green
Party online viral advertising
campaign kicked off
at the beginning of May during local elections with
the release of 'Water Baby,' the first in the series
of seven issue-based
digital film clips that range
from 30 to 60 seconds in length.

***************************************************
4) ELEVEN GREENS ELECTED APRIL 2 IN WISCONSIN
***************************************************
On April 2, eleven Greens were elected to non-partisan
offices in Wisconsin.
The Wisconsin Greens fielded
over 20 candidates. The victories brought the
number
of Green elected officials in Wisconsin to 17. This is
the second
highest record in the nation after California,
which has 49 elected officials.
Green winners on April 2
include four on the Dane County Board of Supervisors,
three on the Douglas County Board of Supervisors, and
one each on the Barron
County Board of Supervisors, the
Portage County Board of Supervisors, the
Madison City
Council, and the council of the Town of Sommers.

***************************************************
5) NADER TO GO TO SUPREME COURT ON OHIO RULING
***************************************************
Ralph Nader plans to ask the U.S. Supreme Court to
hear Nader v. Blackwell,
the case over whether candi-
dates who qualify for the Ohio ballot by petition
are entitled to a partisan label on the November
ballot. Ohio law before 1947
permitted all petitioning
candidates to choose any short label that didn't
mimic
the name of a qualified party. That 1947 change was
part of a package
of hostile election law changes made
that year. All the other 1947 changes
were declared
unconstitutional by the U.S. Supreme Court in 1968,
but
the label restriction still survives.

6) STATE PARTY CONVENTION MOVED TO AUGUST
***************************************************
The Green Party of Ohio Coordinating Committee has
changed the state party
convention from late June to
Saturday, August 24 at St. Patrick's Church in
Dublin.
More information on the convention will be forthcoming
at a later
date.

the recently redrawn ward boundaries that are
scheduled
to take effect with the 2005 election.

10) PENNSYLVANIA GREENS IN THE NEWS
***************************************************
John Anderson, the former Republican congressman from
Illinois and the Independent
presidential candidate
in 1980, has endorsed Mike Morrill, the Green Party's
candidate for governor of Pennsylvania.
See: http://www.ohiogreens.org/features/020511/pennsylvania4.html
Former
Philadelphia Mayor Ed Rendell has signed a
petition to get a ballot position
for the Green Party
slate: Michael Morrill for governor and Vicki Smedley
for lieutenant governor.
See: http://www.ohiogreens.org/features/020511/pennsylvania1.html
Green
Party candidate for lieutenant governor Vicki
Smedley said many corporations
could get by with small
profit margins for the sake of the environment. She
asserted that in the 1940s and 1950s top corporate
salaries were 12 times
entry-level wages for employees,
but they are now soaring up to 200 times
entry-level wages.
See: http://www.ohiogreens.org/features/020511/pennsylvania2.html
At
a rally for Green Party gubernatorial candidate
Michael Morrill at Swathmore
borough hall May 3, the
candidate spoke about economic and social reform,
and
his stance on hot-button issues such as abortion and
the death penalty
(pro and con, in that order). But
most of all, Morrill, a former director
of Christian
Churches United and several prison chaplain programs,
spoke
of the Green Party's growing viability as a
political force.

11) NADER BOOSTS LOCAL NEW JERSEY GREENS
***************************************************
It had to be one of the most expensive pens ever sold.
At a Green Party fundraiser
at a township home May 1,
consumer advocate and former presidential candidate
Ralph Nader auctioned off a pen for more than $1,000.
The
fund-raiser, which was also used as a platform to
introduce Green Party candidates
who will be running
for office in New Jersey in November, was held at the
home of former township Committeeman Carl Mayer, a
Democrat-turned-Green Party
member who ran unsuccess-
fully for a seat in Congress in 1998 and 2000.

14) ERRATA
***************************************************
In the
April 13, 2002 issue of our newsletter (see
http://www.ohiogreens.org/newsletters/020413.html),
it was mentioned in item #7 that Green Party candidate
Michael E. Aleo received
37.6% of the vote for the
1st Hampshire District at the Statehouse in New
Hampshire. The state was actually Massachusetts.
Thanks to Dean Myerson, staff
of the Green Party of
the United States, for calling this error to our attention.
