 2) THE DODEN CAMPAIGN IS UP AND RUNNING!
***************************************************
Frank Doden is the Green Party candidate for U.S.
Congress in Ohio's (now sprawling) 7th district
running against six-term incumbent David Hobson (R).
Mr. Doden is currently in the signature phase of the
ballot qualifying process and needs about 1,800 valid
petition signatures by May 6 to get on the ballot.
Mr. Doden believes that the other two major political
parties are ignoring important issues, and he wants
to bring draw attention to issues like fair trade and
real environmental protection. He is a resident of
Yellow Springs, Ohio, and teaches English at The
Columbus School for Girls in Bexley, Ohio.

 3) AMSTUTZ FOR OHIO HOUSE, DISTRICT 22
***************************************************
Dublin, Ohio resident Alan Amstutz is a local Green
candidate for political office. Mr. Amstutz is in the
process of collecting signatures to get on the ballot
for the Ohio House's 22nd district. Alan is a self-
employed contractor based in Dublin and believes that
improving health care and education should be the
highest state priority at this time. He holds an M.B.A.
degree from Ashland University.

 4) FORMER DEM (NOW GREEN): WEAVER FOR OREGON GOV.
***************************************************
Former U.S. Rep. Jim Weaver, 74, who served as a
Democrat from Oregon in the U.S. House from 1975 to
1987, says he may run for Oregon governor as a
Pacific Green Party candidate.

Weaver was an outspoken populist who frequently
tangled with business interests and played a big role
in energy and environmental issues. Congressional
Quarterly once described him as a "man of conviction
on a multitude of issues" who "often responds to
criticism simply by arguing more loudly." Weaver, who
ran unsuccessfully for mayor of Eugene in 1996, said
he will decide what to do after the May 21 primary.
Although he's critical of the field, he does draw
some distinctions.

 5) MAINE GREEN SUBMITS FOR PUBLIC FINANCING
***************************************************
Maine's Green Independent Party candidate Jonathan
Carter turned in a stack of checks and petitions
Thursday he believes will qualify him to become one
of the nation's first publicly funded gubernatorial
candidates.

Carter said he will also become the most highly funded
Green Party candidate in the country if the petitions
and $5 donations pass muster with state officials who
oversee Maine's Clean Election Act.

Also, Jonathan Carter and the Maine Green Independent
Party, once dismissed as on the fringe, have become
enough of a threat that Democratic officials are asking
the state Ethics Commission to investigate some of
Carter's spending.

 6) LAWSUIT FILED ON BEHALF OF PENNSYLVANIA GREENS
***************************************************
A lawyer representing the Green Party of Pennsylvania
candidates argued in federal court Wednesday that
state laws governing the collection of nominating
signatures are restrictive and unfair to smaller parties.

Glenn Moramarco, a lawyer from the Brennan Center for
Justice at the New York University School of Law, filed
the lawsuit on behalf of five Green Party candidates.
They are challenging a state law that says people
collecting nominating signatures for a political can-
didate must live in the district where the candidate
is running.

 7) NH GREEN GARNERS 37.6% FOR STATEHOUSE SEAT
***************************************************
Democrat Peter V. Kocot defeated Green Party candi-
date Michael E. Aleo, 4,094 to 2,471, in the race to
represent the 1st Hampshire District at the Statehouse.
However, Aleo's 37.6% was a strong showing. Aleo's
totals represent the highest percentage for a Green
Party candidate running for a state-level office in
New Hampshire.

 8) MAYNARD RUNS FOR ATTORNEY GENERAL IN COLORADO
***************************************************
Colorado's state government isn't doing the job look-
ing out for taxpayers and is allowing the sale of
public lands to developers at "giveaway" prices,
according to Alison Maynard, the Green Party candi-
date for state attorney general.

Maynard, 48 and a Denver-based water and land-use
lawyer, said she decided to run for attorney general
after having sued both the Colorado State Board of
Land Commissioners and the Colorado Water Conserva-
tion Board on behalf of environmental and public-
interest groups.

 9) NADER PROMOTES GEORGIA GREEN CANDIDATES
***************************************************
Dismissed as a has-been after his failed presidential
run a year and a half ago, Ralph Nader suddenly finds
his message of political reform in vogue again --
thanks to the scandal surrounding the financial melt-
down of energy giant Enron. Among the Green Party
candidates in Georgia are Atlanta lawyer Nannette
Garrett for governor and a real-estate title examiner
from Oxford, Roy Evritt, for state Senate from the
newly drawn District 25 east of Atlanta. Nader is not
worried that a Green challenge means a two-front war
for Democratic candidates in those races.

10) DIRECTOR QUITS BLAIR CAMP TO TURN GREEN
***************************************************
The Morning Star in England has reported that "film
maker Jack Price, who directed one of Labour leader
Tony Blair's general election broadcasts, defected
to the Green Party [April 5]. Mr. Price said that he
had been a 'lifelong Labour supporter,' whose father
had been a party agent.

"But he declared: 'I can no longer support a party
that refuses to stand up to big business and refuses
to protect our children's future.'

"Mr. Price intends to use his talents to help the
Greens in next month's local elections."

***************************************************
11) MCKINNEY PRESSES FOR INVESTIGATION OF SEPT. 11
***************************************************
Rep. Cynthia McKinney (D-Ga.) is calling for an
investigation into whether President Bush and other
government officials had advance notice of terrorist
attacks on Sept. 11 but did nothing to prevent them.
She added that "persons close to this administration
are poised to make huge profits off America's new war."

In a recent interview with a Berkeley, Calif., radio
station, McKinney said: "We know there were numerous
warnings of the events to come on September 11th. . . .
What did this administration know and when did it know
it, about the events of September 11th? Who else knew,
and why did they not warn the innocent people of New
York who were needlessly murdered? . . . What do they
have to hide?"
