1) GREEN PARTY OF OHIO STATE PARTY PETITION
***************************************************
The Green Party of Ohio (GPO) seeks to acquire 80,000
signatures on a petition to achieve official state
party status with the state of Ohio in 2002. Your
assistance is needed. Information is available on the
Ohio Greens Web site at:
http://www.ohiogreens.org/petition.htm

2) THE CULTURAL CREATIVES
***************************************************
The Cultural Creatives by Paul H. Ray and Sherry
Ruth Anderson "draw[s] upon thirteen years of survey
research studies on more than 100,000 Americans,
plus more than 100 focus groups and dozens of in-
depth interviews. They reveal who the Cultural
Creatives are and the fascinating story of their
emergence over the last generation. . . .

"The Cultural Creatives care deeply about ecology
and saving the planet, about relationships, peace,
and social justice, about self-actualization,
spirituality, and self-expression. Surprisingly,
they are both inner-directed and socially concerned;
they're activists, volunteers, and contributors to
good causes more often than other Americans. But
because they've been so invisible, they are
astonished to find out how many others share both
their values and their way of life. Once they realize
their numbers, their impact on America promises to be
enormous, shaping a new agenda for the twenty-first
century."

The above quotes are from the blurb of this book
published last year. For more information on "The
Cultural Creatives," you may want to visit

3) GREEN PHYSICIAN RUNS FOR CONGRESS IN VIRGINIA
***************************************************
The Virginia 4th congressional district election on
June 19 will be among a Democrat, a Republican, an
Independent and a Green. This will be the first elec-
tion in Virginia (other than for President) in which
party labels (cues) will appear on the ballots. How-
ever, the Green Party candidate, D. C. Amarasinghe,
has been labeled "Independent" on the ballot because
the law passed last year authorizing party labels,
has no means for an unqualified party to have its
name on the ballot. A party cannot be "qualified"
until it has polled 10% for statewide office.

4) NADER SPEAKS TO NATIONAL PRESS CLUB
***************************************************
On Tuesday, June 5, Ralph Nader was the keynote
speaker at the National Press Club. His speech was
titled "Conceit & Consent: The Two Party Duopoly."
A video of the event is available for viewing at
http://video.c-span.org:8080/ramgen/gdrive/npc060501_nader.rm.
Ralph talks about the election, the two party system,
the Green Party, along with a little on his future plans.

5) INSURING PARENTS MAY HELP INSURE MORE CHILDREN
***************************************************
According to a new report from the New York City-based
Commonwealth Fund (http://www.cmwf.org), extending
health insurance to parents may be the best way to
cover more uninsured children. The report, "Health
Insurance: A Family Affair," by Jeanne M. Lambrew of
George Washington University, finds that in states
that have expanded Medicaid and State Children's
Health Insurance Program (CHIP) coverage to parents
as well as children, uninsured rates for eligible
children are far lower than in states that have not
expanded coverage to parents.

Current state Medicaid and CHIP income eligibility
rates for parents are less than 50% of the federal
poverty level in some states, which means that many
low-income, working parents make too much to qualify
for state coverage but too little to afford private
coverage. Extending Medicaid or CHIP to parents not
only gives them an important coverage option, it also
removes the fear of losing affordable coverage when
parents leave welfare for full-time employment.
